Demands

Independent & Grassroots Democratic

We demand recognition of volunteer work by student representatives and in the TU community (e.g., Robots, Racing Team, Space Team) through appropriate ECTS credits and tolerance semesters, as well as continuous promotion of cooperation with these TU organizations.

We demand that decisions made by the student union (HTU) and university representatives (UV) are clearly based on scientific findings and justified by them.

We demand transparent working methods that are economically and financially independent of private industry and party politics in order to represent the interests of students as competently and independently as possible.

We demand that the student council's proximity to the students and its imperative mandate be actively lived out in order to continue to strengthen grassroots democracy for the benefit of the students. To this end, we demand the continuation of the regularly held FsRef.

Fair studies

We demand a university-wide commitment to hybrid teaching. All courses should be streamed or recorded and made available digitally as far as possible (exceptions: laboratories, workshops, excursions, etc.).

We demand that prerequisite chains be relaxed and reviewed for their usefulness in order to enable flexible studies and prevent unnecessary delays in studies.

We demand the abolition of 100% attendance requirements. Unnecessary attendance requirements should be consistently abolished.

We demand that more consideration be given to working students and students with care responsibilities when implementing teaching and examination offerings. According to university law, they already have the right to demand consideration.

We demand the implementation of part-time study programs at TU Wien, as this is already the reality for more than 60% of students who work alongside their studies.

We demand that all teaching staff undergo regular and mandatory training in teaching methods. This training should cover current pedagogical teaching methods. Tutors should receive adequate training in teaching methods and behavior before starting a course.

Doctorate

We demand that every faculty have clear, uniform, and binding guidelines and graduation requirements for doctoral studies, especially with regard to cumulative and non-cumulative dissertations. This will ensure that decisions on acceptance or rejection are based on scientific principles and are transparent.

We demand that the current standard employment of 30 hours per week (UnivAss - PraeDoc) in doctoral programs be increased to 40 hours per week, as many doctoral students exceed this amount anyway.

We demand that doctoral students who are simultaneously employed by TU Wien in a relevant position (UnivAss - PraeDoc, etc.) be allowed to work on their dissertation in addition to conducting research.

International mobility

We demand fixed mobility windows of one semester in all degree programs so that students can participate in exchange programs without delays or organizational hurdles.

We demand that international cooperation be further expanded, but not without careful consideration. We demand a transparent discussion of cooperation and exchange programs with autocratic states or countries where human rights violations occur, as well as sufficient information for students about possible risks.

Equal opportunities & inclusion

We demand that grants and scholarships be adjusted to the median duration of studies. Tuition fees should only be charged after the median duration of studies plus two tolerance semesters and should be socially graded. We demand that the same rules apply to foreign students as to students from the EEA area.

We demand that low-threshold psychological support services for students, especially at TU Wien, be expanded so that students can quickly receive the support they need. In general, we will advocate for the expansion of these services in Austria and will network with the ÖH federal representation to this end.

We demand that TU Wien actively supports FINTA* funding and removes all barriers. Having role models in science and research should not be a privilege.

We demand mandatory anti-discrimination training for teachers to raise awareness of discriminatory teaching practices and actively promote their elimination. In addition, teaching materials must be designed in such a way that they can be used without barriers and without restriction by students with visual or hearing impairments.

We demand that TU Wien further expand barrier-free access to all premises. In addition, students with mental illnesses or, for example, exam anxiety should have the option of receiving individual exam dates so that their illness does not become a disadvantage in their studies.

Sustainable & future-oriented

We demand that the HTU's list of demands be revised, updated, and expanded every two years to ensure an internal overview of ongoing and completed projects and to guide the political (further) development of the HTU.

We demand disclosure of all projects financed by the HTU so that budget allocation can be tracked.

We demand that socially valuable projects by students receive special financial subsidies.

We demand the consistent recognition and expansion of universities and student councils as essential “third spaces.” These spaces between learning environments and private surroundings are indispensable for students. They promote community, personal development, and student identity.

We demand the creation and expansion of student-managed spaces at the university—both as places of learning and as meeting places for all members of the university community. These spaces promote exchange and strengthen the sense of community at the university.

We demand the expansion and improvement of university sports programs and facilities to offer students more opportunities for physical activity and as a balance to their academic routine.

We demand that the future-oriented orientation of TU Wien also be reflected in the everyday life of students. Lecture halls should be designed more ergonomically, and laboratories and workshops should be modernized. In addition, students should be given the resources for self-managed laboratories and rooms

Research

We demand a systematic review and clear labeling of all major research projects that involve dual-use issues in order to ensure that potential risks are dealt with critically.

We demand internal disclosure at TU Wien of the origin of funding for research projects at TU Wien. All members of TU Wien have a right to know where the funding for research work comes from.

We demand clear regulations on the use of AI applications and the associated handling of sensitive data. A modern university must always be open to technology, but also responsible.
